THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University plays Northwestern Oklahoma State in the second of a three-game road string.
ABOUT THE STARS: The Stars routed 11th-ranked Oklahoma Christian 73-50 on Thursday at the Eagles Nest in the Backyard Brawl. OCU (6-5, 4-4 Sooner Athletic Conference) allowed Oklahoma Christian to shoot 36.4 percent from the field in posting its first road victory of the season. The Stars won twice in exhibition play earlier this season.
Chris Brown, a 6-foot senior from Spencer, Okla., came off the bench and scored a game-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Brown also hit 7 of 9 free throws. He leads OCU with 19.5 points a game.
Corey Bingham, a 6-3 junior from Lynn, Mass., put together 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals Thursday. Bingham sank 7 of his 11 shots from the field, including 3 of 6 3-pointers. Bingham averages 13.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.36 steals.
Kavon Lytch, a 6-7 junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., tallied 14 points as OCU had a 36-5 advantage in bench points. Lytch has posted 15.0 points and 6.2 rebounds a game. Jerome Phillips, a 6-5 senior from Chickasha, Okla., recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Phillips has averaged 9.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.10 steals per game.
The Stars are second in the NAIA at 5.73 blocked shots a game as Bryant Williams ranks sixth individually with 2.82 blocks per game. In the preseason, the Stars were picked to finish sixth in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OCU has captured the SAC regular-season crown 13 times.
OCU has gone 38-23 against Northwestern over the years. Northwestern defeated OCU 63-56 on Feb. 26 at Abe Lemons Arena.
ABOUT THE RANGERS: Northwestern's rally fell short in a 79-71 loss to Mid-America Christian on Thursday in Oklahoma City. Northwestern (8-8, 3-6) cut its deficit to two points with 1:04 remaining in the game, but Mid-America answered with the next six points of the game to sew up the win.
Brandon Dixon, a 6-7 senior, recorded 19 points and nine rebounds. Dixon leads the Rangers with 15.9 points and 7.5 rebounds a game. Brandon Brown, a 5-9 senior, added 11 points, four rebounds and three steals. Brown averages 14.6 points and 4.3 rebounds a game.
Northwestern had been picked to finish seventh in the conference by league coaches in the preseason.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Kevin Morrissey enters his first full season as OCU head coach. Morrissey spent the previous four seasons as St. Gregory's coach. He also has been an assistant at Missouri State and Texas-Pan American. Morrissey played his college ball at Oklahoma Baptist and Oral Roberts and high school at Bishop McGuinness in Oklahoma City.
Andrew Brown is in his third season as Northwestern head coach. He has guided the Rangers to a 46-31 record. Prior to becoming head coach, Brown was an assistant to Bob Battisti for three seasons, helping the Rangers to the 2007 NAIA Division I Tournament quarterfinals.
