OCU men cruise by Northwood 8-1

Luke Garvey had one shot in OCU's 8-1 victory over Northwood Tuesday night.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pulled out to an early lead to put away Northwood (Texas) 8-1 Tuesday night at Stars Field.

Steven Short and Ryan Hunter scored two goals each to help the Stars (4-1-1) to victory.

Short, a sophomore from Durban, South Africa, put OCU on the board early with his first goal of the game in the second minute. Short got by the goalie with a nice move and finished a wide open goal to put the Stars up 1-0.

Alex Gang put OCU up 2-0 in the 19th minute when he got by the goalie for another easy goal. Gang now leads the team with eight goals on the season.

The Stars went up 3-0 in the 27th minute when Peiman Pahlevan scored his second goal of the season.

Hunter, a freshman from Tulsa, Okla., added his first goal of the game in the 34th minute to give OCU a 4-0 lead. Jason Gidney recorded his first assist of the season when he connected with Hunter for the goal.

Gidney gave the Stars a 5-0 lead in the 41st minute with a goal assisted by Hunter.

Despite having four goals called back on offsides calls, the Stars led 5-1 at halftime. OCU owned an 11-4 advantage on shots at the half.

Short, Valentin Ponce and Hunter scored in the second half to seal the 8-1 victory for the Stars.

OCU outshot Northwood 23-8 in the game, including 13-5 shots on goal.

Andy Fitzpatrick recorded four saves in goal for the Stars.

OCU will return to action this weekend in the Mobile Classic in Mobile, Ala. The Stars will play Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday at 1 p.m. and Mobile (Ala.) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
