BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Oklahoma City University dropped a 25-21, 25-22, 25-14 decision to Baker (Kan.) on Friday in the Baker Invitational at the Collins Center.
The Stars (4-8) also fell to Benedictine (Kan.) 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20.
Against Baker, Xiaoting Ma pounded out nine kills and recorded seven digs, while Vicky Murphy put together 26 assists, eight digs and two blocks. Alex Benbrook totaled six kills and three blocks, and Adrienne Tillery had six kills and two aces. Elizabeth Hendrix contributed 12 digs.
Tied at 22-22 in the second set, Baker tallied the final three points to put away the set. Jana Boss and Brooke Pryor closed out the set with kills for Baker.
Against Benedictine, Ma, a junior from Dalian, China, had 17 kills and seven digs, while Murphy dished out 31 assists and picked up nine digs for OCU. Hendrix and Brittany Segars recorded 14 digs each to top the Stars.
In the third set, OCU overcame an 11-10 deficit with four consecutive points as Victoria Cross served and Lindsay Hansen contributed a kill. The Stars hit .219 in the fourth set, but Benedictine had a .378 hitting percentage in that set.
OCU meets Avila (Mo.) at 9 a.m., then William Jewell (Mo.) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
