OCU men fall to Wayland Baptist 82-65

Jamel White had 23 points for the Stars.

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University's men's basketball team lost to Wayland Baptist (Texas) 82-65 on Saturday at the Hutcherson Center.

The Stars moved to 13-10, 6-9 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Jamel White posted a team-high 23 points. White, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., scored the first 14 points for the Stars, hitting six of the team's first seven shots.

Ricardo Lovelace, a junior from Philadelphia, followed with 15 points, while Richard Jackson, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., contributed 12 points to the effort rounding out the Stars' double-digit scorers.

The Stars were outrebounded by Wayland Baptist 33-18 and suffered from 18 turnovers in the matchup.

Richard Jackson hit a bucket to put OCU up 33-32 with 3:24 left in the first half. Wayland Baptist answered with six consecutive points to take the lead for good.

OCU shot 52.3 percent from the field, 56.5 percent in the first period.

OCU will face St. Gregory's at 8 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
