OCU drops 74-59 verdict to Lubbock Christian

Na'Vonta Kentle had 11 points and five rebounds Thursday.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma City University staged a second-half rally, but Lubbock Christian (Texas) answered to win 74-59 in men's basketball on Thursday at the Rip Griffin Center.

The Stars cut Lubbock Christian's lead to five points, but ended up falling to 13-9, 6-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Richard Jackson, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., led the Stars with 12 points, while Na'Vonta Kentle came off the bench to record 11 points and five rebounds.

DaVell Jackson had nine points and seven rebounds, and Marlon Jones chipped in nine points and five boards for OCU. Jamel White contributed eight points and 11 rebounds.

OCU put together a 12-0 run to cut Lubbock Christian's advantage to 43-38. Jones had consecutive buckets off White feeds with the second coming at 13:47 left in the game. Jones also had another basket in the run, while Kentle chipped in a 3-point play.

Lubbock Christian responded with five unanswered points and eventually built an 18-point lead in the second. Lubbock Christian had a 19-point advantage in the first half.

OCU managed 35.3 percent shooting from the floor.

The Stars square off against Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
