OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's men's basketball team fell to John Brown (Ark.) 84-68 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Jamel White, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., led the Stars with 21 points, three rebounds and three assists. Marlon Jones, a senior from Greenville, N.C., and DaVell Jackson both dropped in 11 points.
Jones grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while Jackson, a junior from Las Vegas, recorded six rebounds, three assists and five steals. OCU moved to 15-12, 8-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU was down by 11 going into halftime. John Brown went on a 6-0 run with 4:39 to play, lengthening their lead to 22 points.
The Stars shot 38.6 percent from the field. John Brown shot 50 percent from the floor, 59.3 percent in the first half. John Brown buried 6 of 10 3-point shots in the first period.
"We had trouble scoring," said OCU coach Kevin Morrissey. "We settled for jump shots and didn't get to the foul line. That's when you need to execute. We had breakdown after breakdown."
The Stars defense forced 17 turnovers and had a total of 30 rebounds in the matchup. OCU was able to convert 22 points from turnovers.
OCU will face Rogers State on Saturday in Claremore, Okla. at 8 p.m.
