OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pulled away for a 67-48 men's basketball win against St. Gregory's on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Chris Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., put in 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting to pace three Stars (3-2, 1-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) in double figures. Brown also collected a team-high eight steals.
Corey Bingham, a junior from Lynn, Mass., provided 13 points, while Jerome Phillips, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., added 10 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The Stars limited St. Gregory's to just 32 percent shooting for the game and forced 21 turnovers. OCU outscored SGU 25-9 in points off turnovers.
“I thought our effort at times was lacking, but in the end we did what we needed to do to get a win,” OCU coach Kevin Morrissey said.
After St. Gregory's cut OCU's lead to 55-46 with 5:13 left, OCU closed the game on a 12-4 run.
Brown hit a jumper, followed by a layup from Phillips to give OCU a 59-46 edge with 2:59 to play. Brown hit another jumper and sank six free throws for the final eight points.
With the game tied at 16-16, OCU went on an 18-4 run to build a 34-20 lead with 2:19 to play in the first half. Brown provided OCU with a 3-pointer and totaled seven points during the run.
The Stars led 39-26 at halftime.
OCU will face Mid-America Christian on Saturday, Dec. 12 on the road in Oklahoma City at 8 p.m.
