OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian topped Oklahoma City University 71-56 in men's basketball on Saturday evening at the Gaulke Activity Center.
The Stars (3-3, 1-2 Sooner Athletic Conference) were outrebounded 41-35 and shot just 30 percent from the field. Mid-America took 67 shots to only 52 for OCU.
The loss was the first for OCU against Mid-America Christian in 10 all-time meetings.
Chris Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., led OCU with 20 points on 7-of-20 shooting. Corey Bingham, a junior from Lynn, Mass., added 11 points.
Mid-America used a 13-2 run to race out to a 22-11 lead early in the first half.
After the Stars cut the lead to six on a free throw from Brown, Charlie Shorter hit two 3-pointers to extend the lead back to double digits for MACU. Shorter finished with a game-high 23 points.
The Stars shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 36-24 at halftime. Brown scored 14 points to lead OCU at the break.
OCU cut the lead to 44-40 with a 3-pointer from Brown with 15 minutes to play, but that is as close as they would get as MACU went on an 8-0 run to put the game away.
The Stars have three weeks off before hosting Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 8 p.m. on Jan. 2 inside Abe Lemons Arena.
