Stars sweep Mid-America in three sets

Jeannee Campbell recorded six kills and three blocks Tuesday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked off Mid-America Christian 25-16, 25-18, 25-12 on Tuesday at the Gaulke Activity Center to run the Stars' win streak to three.

Xiaoting Ma, a junior from Dalian, China, notched a team-high 12 kills for OCU. The Stars improved to 9-14, 3-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.

Samantha Ball, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., tallied a season-high 40 assists for the Stars. Adrienne Tillery, a junior from Carthage, Texas, added 10 kills and three blocks, while Alex Benbrook, a sophomore from Enid, Okla., recorded nine kills.

Shelbey Veselka, a junior from Boerne, Texas, topped OCU with 12 digs, and Ma and Victoria Cross each picked up eight digs.

OCU overcame a 16-14 first-set deficit, scoring the final 11 points of the set as Cross served. Tillery keyed the Stars' set-clinching run, recording four kills and teaming with Vicky Murphy on a block during that span.

In the second set, the Stars erased a 10-6 deficit, taking the lead 13-12 on Benbrook's kill. Jeannee Campbell had back-to-back kills to put away the second set.

OCU meets John Brown (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
