FORT SMITH, Ark. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 setback to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Tuesday at the Stubblefield Center.
The Stars went to 14-16. Xiaoting Ma, a junior from Dalian, China, topped OCU in kills with 11 while picking up 12 digs.
Victoria Cross, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, and Shelbey Veselka, a junior from Boerne, Texas, topped OCU with 14 digs each. Alex Benbrook, a sophomore from Enid, Okla., added nine kills and three blocks, and Lindsay Hansen, a senior from Moore, Okla., chipped in seven kills and two blocks.
Samantha Ball, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., handed out 31 assists to go with nine digs for the Stars.
In the first set, Benbrook hammered down a kill to tie the score 18-18. Arkansas-Fort Smith answered with three points in a row to take the set.
In the third, Ball knotted the score 22-22 by putting down a kill. Arkansas-Fort Smith put away the win with three consecutive kills.
The Stars resume Sooner Athletic Conference play by facing Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 7 p.m. Friday in Plainview, Texas. OCU sits second in the conference with a 5-2 record.
