SILVIS, Ill. – Oklahoma City University stood in fourth place after the first round of the NAIA Preview Invitational on Thursday at TPC Deere Run.
The Stars, ranked second in NAIA men's golf by Golf World, carded a 300 to trail seventh-ranked Texas Wesleyan by eight strokes.
Sondre Ronold, a freshman from Stavanger, Norway, fired a 74 for OCU to be three strokes off the pace set by Arvid Bengtsson of Shorter (Ga.).
Clark Collier and Michael Palmer each shot a 75 for the Stars. Ben Bench contributed a 76, while Julian Valenciana had a79.
Playing as individuals, Ryan Clatworthy recorded a 74, and Jacob Sahmaunt shot an 80.
Conditions were cold and wet on the par-71, 6,625-yard course. Temperatures reached 44 degrees Thursday.
The TPC Deere Run hosts the NAIA Championships on May 18-21. The NAIA and host St. Ambrose (Iowa) recently announced an agreement to keep the NAIA Championships in Silvis, Ill., through 2011.
The Stars tee off the final round at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
