John Brown nips OCU 71-70

Richard Jackson had 25 points, three rebounds and three steals Saturday.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Davaughn Jackson sank a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining to complete a John Brown (Ark.) rally to a 71-70 victory over Oklahoma City University at Murray Sells Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Stars, ranked 21st in NAIA Division I men's basketball, dropped to 11-6, 4-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. John Brown improved to 13-5, 6-4.

Richard Jackson, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., spearheaded OCU with 25 points and three steals. Jackson played all 40 minutes and connected on 10 of 13 shots from the field and 4 of 5 3-pointers.

Jamel White, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., added 20 points, three assists and two steals for the Stars. White canned five treys. DaVell Jackson had 11 points, while Marlon Jones chipped in six points and a game-high 10 rebounds and two blocked shots for OCU.

White knocked in a 3 to provide OCU with a 45-23 advantage with 17:34 left for the Stars' largest lead of the game. John Brown answered with a 13-4 run.

John Brown scored the final seven points of the game in the last 59 seconds of the contest. Abel Galliguez cashed in a turnover for a layup, then Jarrett McGriff nailed a 3-pointer with 36 seconds left to cut the Stars' edge to 70-69. That set up Davaughn Jackson's heroics.

OCU built 13-2 and 21-8 leads early. DaVell Jackson had six of OCU's first 13 points. The Stars hit 52 percent of their shots from the floor and nine 3-pointers in the game. John Brown sank 16 treys.

The Stars face Oklahoma Baptist at 8 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
