OCU women fall 68-61 to Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas ? Oklahoma City University suffered its first women?s basketball loss of the season 68-61 to Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Thursday at Rip Griffin Center.
Jordan Hampton
had a game-high 20 points for Lubbock Christian. Hampton gave Lubbock Christian its largest lead at nine points on a basket with a minute left.
OCU, ranked second in NAIA Division I, fell to 14-1, 3-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Ninth-ranked Lubbock Christian went to 12-3, 3-1.
The loss snapped OCU's 25-game conference regular-season winning streak. The Stars last lost a conference contest to Oklahoma Christian 78-75 on Feb. 12, 2005.
Viola Beybeyah led the Stars with 16 points. Alexandra Kotta added 12 points, and Chelsea Ledbetter contributed 10 points.
Lubbock Christian used a late first-half run to whittle away an 11-point OCU lead. The Stars led 35-31 at halftime on the strength of Beybeyah?s 15 points.
OCU shot 46.3 percent from the field and only 6 of 25 from 3-point range. Lubbock Christian hit 8 of 17 3-pointers and 16 of 20 free throws in the game.
The Stars move on to play Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
