Stars secure Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate title

OCU's Anthony Marchesani wins individual title

Three Stars finished in the top 10 in the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate.
VICTORIA, Texas – Oklahoma City University's Anthony Marchesani provided a final-round 68 to secure the individual title and propel the Stars to a team title in the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate Monday at Victoria Country Club.
OCU, ranked No. 2 in NAIA men's golf, finished with a score of 292-298-290—880 on the par-72, 6,870-yard course and edged No. 8 Texas Wesleyan by two shots and top-ranked Wayland Baptist (Texas) by 14 strokes.
"It is nice to start off the semester with a victory," OCU coach Kyle Blaser said. "Anthony played outstanding, but as a team we have a lot of work to do."
Marchesani, a sophomore from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, carded 11 birdies through three rounds and finished with a score of 71-72-68—211. Marchesani finished five shots ahead of Jose Pablo Rolz of Texas Wesleyan and seven strokes in front of Ben Wollam of Grand View (Iowa).
Fellow sophomore Austen Fuller, of Edmond, Okla., finished fourth with a score of 72-70-78—220. Fuller also rolled in 11 birdies in his first tournament with the Stars.
James Marchesani, a senior from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, tied for 10th with a score of 72-77-74—223. Marchesani eagled the fourth hole during the final round and recorded four birdies.
Freshman Garrison Mendoza, of Clinton, Okla., turned in a score of 77-79-72—228, and Jett Johnson, a sophomore from Norman, Okla. finished with 81-83-76—240.
Issa Abou el Ela, a sophomore from Alexandria, Egypt, carded 73-78-74—225 while playing as an individual.
The Stars will return to action in the San Antonio Shootout on Feb. 23-24 at TPC San Antonio in San Antonio.
