SHAWNEE, Okla. - Oklahoma City University took third place in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's cross country championships Saturday at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
Sara Moore, a sophomore from Omagh, Ireland provided OCU's 21st-ranked women with a third overall showing. Five Stars finished the 5,000-meter run in the top 25.
Moore's 18 minutes, 3.66 seconds led OCU. Michaela Werner, a freshman from Grove, Okla., came in next for the Stars with a time of 18:37.42, good for eighth.
Rileigh Darby-McClure, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., crossed the finish line in 11th with a time of 18:48.30, while Taylor Harrill, a freshman from Cache, Okla., recorded 19:23.14 for Oklahoma City.
Kaitlin Pontikes, a junior from Elgin, Okla., rounded out the top five for the Stars with a finish of 19:25.52. Raechel Brown, a senior from Edmond, Okla., recorded 19:48.48, while Madeline Boehlke, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., turned in a 19:50.11.
"We ran well," OCU assistant coach Matt Aguero said. "We knew coming into the meet that there are four really strong teams in our conference, and we thought we could go anywhere from first to fourth. We got third, so I think we have a good chance to get all the girls in the national meet."
Oklahoma Baptist and Wayland Baptist (Texas) both turned in scores of 47 points, but Oklahoma Baptist took the SAC crown with the No. 1 overall finish.
Moore, Werner and Darby-McClure all received all-SAC honors.
OCU will run in the NAIA Championships on Nov. 22 in Lawrence, Kan.
