Ronold of OCU grabs all-Nicklaus accolades

NAIA individual champion honored as among top 24 college golfers in nation in 2012-13

Sondre Ronold became the fourth Star to win the NAIA men's golf individual national championship.
NORMAN, Okla. – Sondre Ronold of Oklahoma City University has been chosen for the 2013 all-Nicklaus team as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America recognizing the nation's top collegiate players from NCAA Division I, II and III plus the NAIA and NJCAA.
The all-Nicklaus team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history's greatest player, but also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf. Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Awards in 1988.
Ronold, a senior from Stavanger, Norway, became the 2013 NAIA individual champion and Nicklaus award winner. The Nicklaus award is annually given to the top collegiate men's golfer in Divisions I, II, III, the NAIA and the NJCAA.
In 2012-13, Ronold became the fourth from OCU to take the individual crown in his only national tournament appearance. Ronold tied for first place in the San Antonio Shootout on Feb. 25-26 at TPC San Antonio, but lost in the playoff. He completed his senior season with a 74.17 stroke average, Sooner Athletic Conference golfer of the week for Feb. 27-March 3 and four top-10 finishes. He has been named a consensus first-team NAIA all-American.
For his career, Ronold posted a career stroke average of 73.85 in four years at OCU. A two-time all-American, he was part of two national championship teams and four conference title teams with the Stars.
Ronold became the fourth Star to make all-Nicklaus. Previously, Anthony Michael in 2009, Julian Valenciana in 2010 and Clark Collier in 2012 were all-Nicklaus honorees from OCU.
OCU owns NAIA men's golf championships won in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013 led by NAIA Hall of Fame coach Kyle Blaser.
