Box Score
BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University cruised past Southwestern Christian 98-58 on Tuesday at Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.
Yvonte Neal, a junior from Spring Valley, Calif., topped the Stars with 23 points and four 3-pointers. OCU, ranked second in NAIA Division I women's basketball, went to 4-0, 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Autumn Lau, a senior from Mount Wolf, Pa., posted 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Ouleymatou Coulibaly, a junior from Bamako, Mali, West Africa, added 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Stars.
Kayla MacKenzie, a senior from Peoria, Ariz., produced 13 points, five assists and three treys, while Cara Pugh, a senior from Oklahoma City, contributed 10 points and six rebounds for OCU.
The Stars last played Nov. 29 in a 72-70 overtime win over Xavier (La.), then ranked 15th.
"Having 18 days off I didn't know what to expect coming into this game," OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. "I was very pleased with the effort. I thought we played really well together. Our shooting was good. We hit 11 3-pointers. The only thing I wish we had picked up a little bit more was defensively. Everyone contributed, and they're just glad to be back on the court."
OCU nailed 11 3-pointers and hit 50 percent from the field in surpassing 95 points for the third time in its four games this season. The Stars built a 47-28 rebounding advantage and outscored Southwestern Christian 24-4 in second-chance points.
Tommitrise Collins' putback provided OCU with its biggest advantage at 98-57 with 1:10 remaining.
"That's what we've been working on is second-chance opportunities," Trammell said. "I don't think we've been rebounding very well in our three previous games. That's something we took pride in this evening."
The Stars meet 15th-ranked Benedictine (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
