OCU turned in a final round score of 9.460 Friday to take the large coed cheer title. The Stars edged Shorter (Ga.), 9.243, and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) 8.398.
“The national championship for large coed was a perfect reward,” OCU coach Brandy Corcoran said. “They have had tremendous struggles this year and I am so proud they were able to hold it together.”
The Stars posted a score of 9.203 Friday to finish in first place in all-girl cheer. OCU finished ahead of Indiana Northwest, 8.323, MidAmerica Nazarene, 7.858, and Indiana East, 6.823.
“Most of the all-girl team was part of last year's small coed team that won runner-up,” Corcoran said. “They were super hungry for this national championship. It was great to see them win one and it was rewarding to see our hard work pay off.”
The Stars turned in a third place finish in large dance and finished 10th in hip-hop dace against NCAA Division II competition.
On Saturday OCU competed in group stunt and mascot championships.
