OCU holds off John Brown 56-41

The Stars picked up thier 14th straight 25-win sesaon against John Brown

Lauren Gober posted 11 points and seven rebounds against John Brown.
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University women's basketball scraped out a 56-41 road win over John Brown (Ark.) Saturday at Bill George Arena.
The win bumps the Stars to 25-1 on the season and 19-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Stars held a 12-10 lead at the 8:46 mark when sophomore Kayla MacKenzie hit back-to-back 3-point jumpers to spark OCU on a 12-0 run and make the score 22-10 with just under six minutes to play in the first half.
OCU finished the half on a 22-7 run to take a 32-17 lead to the locker room at halftime. MacKenzie fueled the Stars' run with 12 points.
Both teams struggled from the field in the first half. OCU shot 34 percent and held John Brown to 30 percent from floor.
Dietra Caldwell picked off a John Brown pass and scored in transition to put OCU up 36-21 with 17:08 remaining in the game.
The Stars struggled to score in the second half and only converted two field goals attempts in the first 13 minutes of the period. John Brown took advantage and cut the OCU lead to six at the 7:38 mark.
Lauren Gober scored in the paint to break OCU out of its shooting funk and start a 12-1 run. Gober and Nicollette Smith each scored five points during the run to give the Stars a 53-36 lead with 1:32 left to play.
Gober hit from 3-point range with 39 seconds left to put the game out of reach and give the Stars the 56-41 victory.
OCU made its living at the free-throw line in the second half converting on 9-of-10 down the stretch.
Mackenzie lead all scorers with 12 points of the bench. Gober finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, Smith chipped in with 11 points and Tiffany Goldwire pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
OCU will return to action against St. Gregory's at 6 p.m. Wednesday at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse in Shawnee, Okla.
