OCU knocks off Rogers State 61-50

Jeffries leads No. 1-ranked Stars with 12 points

Desiree Jeffries scored a team-high 12 points for OCU on Thursday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University scraped out a 61-50 victory over Rogers State on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Desiree Jeffries, a junior from Oklahoma City, became the Stars' only double-figure scorer with 12 points, four rebound, three assists and two steals. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 24-1, 18-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Tiffany Goldwire, a senior from Oklahoma City, posted nine points, 10 rebounds and three steals for OCU. Lauren Gober, a junior from Newcastle, Okla., chipped in nine points, six rebounds and two steals, while Taylor Booze, a senior from Duncanville, Texas, contributed nine points and five rebounds for the Stars.
OCU hit 41.8 percent of its shots from the field. Rogers State managed 32.8 percent shooting from the floor, including 25.8 percent in the first half.
The Stars led by as many as 18 points. Booze had a transition layup to provide OCU a 35-17 advantage with 19:11 left in the game.
Ariana Silva hit a 3-pointer that capped a 10-0 Rogers State run. OCU led 39-31 with 14:09 showing on the clock.
Sierra Cornwell knocked in a fastbreak layup to cut OCU's lead to 51-42 with 6:02 left. Gober answered with a free throw and nailed a trey to maintain the Stars' double-digit advantage.
OCU erased Rogers State's only lead of the game at 4-2 with a 9-0 run. Emily Davis dropped in a 3-pointer for a 7-4 lead, which OCU kept the rest of the game.
The Stars take on John Brown (Ark.) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
