JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – John Parks and the Oklahoma City University 4x400-meter relay team picked up all-American honors in the NAIA indoor track and field championship meet Saturday at the Memorial Center Mini-Dome at East Tennessee State.
Parks, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, finished fourth in the 400-meter dash and led off for the relay team of Parks, Justin Viewins, Randall Hairston and Tyrone Hawkins.
"For a young team such as ours, progress for us is daily,” OCU coach Micheal Houston said. “As a whole, we are making strides to get better.”
In the 400, Parks ran the race in 48.55 seconds. Sean Pickstock of Dickinson State (N.D.) captured the national title, covering the 400 in 47.56. Parks improved upon the 48.72 he ran in the preliminaries.
The OCU relay team finished in 3 minutes, 13.48 seconds to finish in fourth place in the 4x400. Wayland Baptist (Texas) took the national championship, running in 3:12.91. OCU's relay ran a 3:13.47 for the fastest time in the prelims.
