Stephanie Shawenters the fourth season of her second stint at Oklahoma City University as assistant coach and brings familiarity with the Sooner Athletic Conference after a fine playing career.
Shaw spent one season as an assistant coaching at her alma mater, Wayland Baptist (Texas). The season prior to that, Shaw was a graduate assistant for the Stars with coach Rob Edmisson. She has become one of the most sought after assistant coaches in the nation.
In 2009-10, OCU posted a 32-4 season with a trip to the NAIA Division I semifinals, a share of the Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season championship and an SAC Tournament title. Donica Cosby captured first-team all-American honors as well as SAC newcomer of the year. Starr Fairbanks and Holly Hardin also picked up all-American acclaim.
In 2008-09, the Stars were 31-6, advanced to the NAIA semifinals and won the SAC Tournament. Hardin became a second-team all-American in addition to SAC newcomer of the year.
In 2007-08, OCU went 28-5, won the SAC regular-season and tournament crowns and earned a No. 1 seed in the NAIA Tournament. Viola Beybeyah became SAC player of the year, Zanita Johnson became SAC defensive player of the year and Beybeyah and Chelsea Ledbetter were all-Americans.
With Shaw’s aid in 2005-06, OCU finished 32-3, advanced to the NAIA quarterfinals and won the conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Stars finished 18-0 in SAC play. At the end of the season, Mariam Sybecame the program’s first WNBA draftee.
In her playing career at Wayland Baptist, Shaw made all-Sooner Athletic Conference three times while scoring 1,002 points. As a junior, Shaw led the SAC in assists and was a second-team NAIA all-American.
Shaw led Plainview High School (Texas) to the 2001 Class 4A state championship during her prep career.
