Claire Coggins is the new assistant of the Oklahoma City University women's basketball program.
Coggins joins the OCU staff after two seasons as the assistant at Connors State. Last season the Cowgirls finished with a 27-5 record, the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference title and an appearance in the NJCAA Region II championship game.
Coggins had three 2011 all-NJCAA Region II performers under her tutelage in Sierra Cornwell, Katie Fleming and Shakayla Love. Coggins also coached Magen Roth, a 2010 NJCAA all-American, as a first-year assistant at Connors State.
Professionally, Coggins spent the 2007 season with the WNBA's Chicago Sky. In 2008, she played with Panathanaikos in Athens, Greece.
As a collegian, Coggins played basketball at Kansas State. She earned two all-Big 12 selections and ended her career with 1,236 points, the 32nd Wildcat to pass the 1,000-point mark. Coggins was a member of the 2004 Big 12 Championship team and was named most valuable player of the 2006 post-season WNIT.
Coggins, a native of Independence, Mo., earned her degree from Kansas State in 2007. She played her prep career at Lee's Summit North (Mo.) where her jersey was retired in 2007.
