Assistant cross country and long-distance coach Kyle McKinley joins Oklahoma City University after three years of competition for the Stars as a member of OCU's 2018 and 2019 National Champion Cross Country teams. While at OCU, McKinley was a three-time All-Conference performer in XC and posted the fourth-fastest half marathon time in the NAIA in 2019.
Following his graduation from Oklahoma City University in 2020 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science, McKinley has remained heavily involved in the running community. He manages OK Runner, a locally owned running store that specializes in one-on-one footwear analysis, and is the owner of two businesses - Scissortail Running and Kyle McKinley Photography.
Through Scissortail Running, a private coaching business, McKinley has coached post-collegiate and masters runners to lifetime personal bests in distances from the mile up to the marathon and 50K. Members of McKinley's Scissortail Running Elite team are often seen leading local races and are targeting entry standards into national-level events, including the Olympic Trials.
McKinley has continued training post-collegiately as a self-coached athlete, and recently was the overall winner of the 2022 Erie Marathon in a time of 2:32:58. He is currently training to run the qualifying standard of 2:18 for the 2024 Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando, FL.
