Hadzo Habibovic returned to guide the Oklahoma City University rowing program as head coach.
In 2019-20, Oklahoma City took fifth place in the men’s collegiate four in the 55th Head of the Charles, the largest regatta in the world.
In 2018-19, the Stars posted milestone achievements in the Dad Vail Regatta and the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. In the IRA Championships, OCU's men's varsity four won the third level final for the program’s best finish in the event (13th). In the 81st running of the Dad Vail Regatta, the Stars captured the Thomas A. Curran Cup for the first time ever by winning the men's varsity heavyweight four race with a course-record time.
Habibovic directed the Midwest/Central Region Olympic development camp for USRowing, developing the finest under-19 youth athletes in the region.
Habibovic enjoyed a successful college career as a coxswain for the Stars from 2011-15 as well as in international competition. Habibovic piloted the United States to its first men’s eight gold medal in the World University Games in Chungju, South Korea, following his senior year at OCU. Habibovic competed in the U.S. Under-23 World Rowing Championships Selection Camp prior to his senior year.
During his senior season with Oklahoma City, the Stars achieved several program milestones. Habibovic contributed to OCU capturing its first Western Sprints men's varsity eight title and first Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Regatta berth. Also in 2014-15, the Stars took the overall points trophy in the Head of the Hooch for the fifth consecutive year and the all points trophy in the John Hunter Regatta while posting their finest finish in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at third place in the men's varsity eight.
As a junior, Habibovic manned the coxswain seat as OCU finished second in the varsity heavyweight four in the 76th edition of the Dad Vail Regatta.
Habibovic, from Chicago, competed with the Lincoln Park Juniors, now known as the Chicago Rowing Foundation, during his high school days. Habibovic, a native of Bosnia, qualified for the youth national championships and club national championships for two years. He took part in the USRowing Junior National Team Development Camp in 2010.
Habibovic earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in accounting from OCU.
