Dr. Kevin Jones is serving as a volunteer assistant coach and chiropractic sports medicine specialist for Oklahoma City University's men's and women's cross country and track programs this year. Jones has a private practice here in Oklahoma City where his primary focus is in the treatment and prevention of sports related injuries. Although not born and raised here in Oklahoma, Jones’ family dates back several generations to the land rush on his father side. He was born and raised in the New York City area and graduated from Massapequa High School on Long Island in 1978.
Jones ran nine minutes and 40 seconds setting the Massapequa High School two mile record in his last race in 1978. He then moved to California where he went on to earn all-state and all-American honors in both cross country and track while competing for Santa Rosa Junior College and California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo. He specialized in the 3,000 meter steeple chase and 5,000 meter run during his collegiate carrier and has personal best of 8:53.6 and 14:12 respectively.
Post collegiately he continued to run professional road races into the early 1990’s with personal best of 14:06 5K, 23:32 8K, 29:04 10K, 48:27 10 miles and 2:26:14 marathon. Currently he continues to run for fun and wellness with an ambition to return to competitive form and compete on local and national levels as a master’s runner.
Jones’ previous coaching experience is as follows; youth cross country and track for the Valley of the Moon Track Club, two years; assistant cross country and track coach, California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo, three years; lifestyle management coach for his patients since 1996 with a focus on nutrition, cardiovascular fitness and strength training.
