Brandy Corcoran leads Oklahoma City University’s coed competitive cheerleading and dance programs as coach and spirit coordinator.
Corcoran has been at the forefront of efforts to have cheerleading and dance recognized as championship sports by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and is now the newly elected president of the NAIA cheer and pom coaches association.
In 2010-11, Corcoran led the Stars to the first NAIA titles awarded in the sport as OCU won the NAIA large coed cheerleading title and the large dance crown. OCU finished as NAIA runner-up in the small coed cheerleading category. Fifteen Stars became all-Americans.
In 2009-10, OCU finished second place in Division II cheerleading and Division III dance categories in the National Cheerleading Association/National Dance Association Collegiate Championships.
In 2008-09, the Stars took third in the Division II cheerleading group in the NCA/NDA Collegiate Championships.
Corcoran joined OCU after being cheerleading coach at the University of Oklahoma since 2002. She has a history of creating new cheerleading programs.
She was spirit coordinator for the cheerleading and pom pon teams at Central Oklahoma from 2000-03. On the high-school level, she was coach at Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City from 2000-03 and Tuttle, Okla., from 1990-2001.
Corcoran directed the Oklahoma teams to place top five yearly at the Collegiate National Cheerleading Championships. Corcoran guided Central Oklahoma to the 2002 and 2003 NCA all-girl cheer and the 2003 dance national championship and Tuttle to nine state championships.
OCU added competitive cheerleading to create new opportunities for cheerleaders seeking a quality college education and the chance to compete on a national scope at the collegiate level.
