The Oklahoma City University Athletic Training Department actively seeks to provide the best care for each student-athlete's medical needs in hopes of returning them to play at a competitive level as quickly and as safely possible. OCU's staff of certified athletic trainers and team physicians serves approximately 360 student-athletes across 23 varsity teams, focusing on prevention, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

The athletic training room (ATR) is located in room 112 on the East hall of the Freede Wellness Center. The athletic training office is adjacent to the ATR in room 113.

FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES

Student-athletes may NOT participate in team activities (conditioning, practice, lifting, games, etc.) unless all their athletic training paperwork is completed and turned into the athletic training office. Student-athletes are required to be examined by a physician (MD or DO) yearly to be cleared for participation in intercollegiate athletics.

STUDENT-ATHLETE CHECKLIST

PHYSICAL FORM
All student-athletes are required to have a physical on file each year. Physicals are offered and administered each year at OCU, however the student-athlete can have a physical done on their own as long as it is on the OCU Physical Form.

CONCUSSION FACT SHEET
All student-athlete's will be concussion baseline tested on the Sway Medical App by the Athletic Trainers, and re-tested every two years.

KONG IQ App
All student-athletes need to download the Kong IQ app. This is the app that is used to fill out the athletic training paperwork and upload their insurance.

VIVATURE REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS
The step-by-step guide for each student-athlete to register in the Blueocean (Vivature System) is linked above. All of this can also be done in the KONGiQ app.

INFORMATION FOR INJURIES, ILLNESS, AND INSURANCE
When a student-athlete sustains an injury, it is the responsibility of that student-athlete to report the injury to the Athletic Training Staff as soon as possible. The Athletic Training Staff will evaluate the injury and make a clinical decision. Based on this evaluation we will decide to either treat the injury or refer to a physician for further evaluation.

OCU Secondary Athletic Insurance will only be applied to injuries sustained during approved Team workouts and referred by the Athletic Training Staff. The OCU Secondary Athletic Insurance will not be applied to pre-existing injuries. If a student-athlete goes to a physician on his/her own, the charges incurred are the responsibility of the student-athlete.

Decisions regarding a student-athlete's medical status or ability to return to practice/play will be the sole responsibility of the Team Physician and the OCU Athletic Training Staff.

All student-athletes are required to have primary health insurance. The school automatically enrolls each of its students into a health plan through BancFirst to ensure this policy is followed. If the student-athlete has their own insurance already, they must waive coverage by August 31st or their bursar account will be charged, and no refund will be issued.

If the student-athlete wishes to use this policy, they will need to create an account, request their ID Cards, and upload the front and back to the KONGiQ App.

For more information about these policies, please click the Information for Injuries, Illness, and Insurance link above.

TRYOUT/PARTICIPATION RELEASE
Any individual that is not currently an Oklahoma City University student but is working out or practicing with an OCU team must sign the Tryout/Participation Release, and turn it into the Coach of the respective Team.

VISITING TEAMS
The athletic training room (ATR) is located in room 112 on the east hall of the Freede Wellness Center.

We are happy to assist all visiting student-athletes with any needs they may have.

If an Athletic Trainer is unable to travel with the team, we ask that they bring along a fully stocked med-kit, as well as a list of the team's needs. Please send that to the Head Athletic Trainer prior to your team's arrival on campus.Â
