Pena Earns SAC Honor

Oklahoma City – Erika Pena of Oklahoma City and Avery Brown of Panhandle State have been named this week's Sooner Athletic Conference Digital Scoreboards Women's Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week for their efforts this past week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
 
Pena took part in the South Plains Alumni Elite and grabbed a pair of top-three finishes in the two events that she participated in. Pena won the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:14.41, which is the top time in the SAC this spring. Pena then placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:44.20, which is also tops in the conference this season.

Brown also participated in the South Plains Alumni Elite and had three season-best marks in the throws. Brown set a new personal best in the discus with a mark of 34.20m, which placed her ninth in the event. Brown then broke the OPSU program record in the shot put with a throw of 10.41m, which placed her seventh in the event. Brown also placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.04m. Her mark in the hammer is the second-best in the conference this spring.
