2025 Season Preview: Women's Golf

OKLAHOMA CITY – Winning Sooner Athletic Conference championships has become commonplace for the Oklahoma City University women's golf team. Coach Josh Gorzney has guided his team to multiple conference titles while coming close to winning national championships over his four-year tenure at OCU.

Oklahoma City finished last spring season with an 11th-place finish at the NAIA women's golf championships after being ranked inside the Top-10 all season. Last year's team included three All-American selections and multiple individual honors for conference recognition.

"To work relentlessly outside of practice times to become the best version of ourselves," said Coach Gorzney when asked about his goals for the team entering 2025. Gorzney adds, "That requires identifying our strengths and weaknesses by self-evaluation and allowing ourselves to be coached. I would love to bring home another SAC Conference Championship for our team so we can experience the National Championship again."

Returning Golfers
The lone returner who earned All-American honors from last season is senior Logan Allen. Carrie Bowers and Klaudie Karnikova join Allen in returning for 2025.

"Everyone on the team has leadership qualities regardless of their seniority," said Gorzney.

Allen won the SAC individual title last year and also won the Kyle Blaser Invitational on top of finishing second during the Battle of Winter Creek. Bowers amassed a stroke average of 86.1 for 2025. Karnikova earned a stroke average of 77.1 in nine tournaments. The senior from Prague finished in the Top-15 four different times throughout 2025.

New Players
A quartet of incoming golfers will join the team.

Beatriz Pinheiro comes to OCU from Brazil. Paula Ortiz joins Oklahoma City after a decorated and successful high school career; Ortiz won multiple District and Regional titles during her four years as a varsity letter recipient. Gracie Levonitis won the 2A State Championship while playing for the Crusaders of Christian Heritage Academy before signing with OCU. Taylor Tevis rounds out the newcomers for OCU. She is a native of Bixby, Okla., who attended Owasso High School.

"Getting to a new place will be an adjustment, so I'm interested to see who adapts and is willing to get out of their comfort zone. As long as we're committed to the process of getting better than our performances will trend better and better throughout the season," Coach Gorzney mentioned while discussing his expectations for the newcomers.

The Schedule
The Stars begin its fall schedule next week with the Payne Stewart Invitational in Springfield, Missouri. From Springfield, the team will travel to Iowa to participate in the Northwest Iowa Invitational on Sept. 15. OCU will then play a tournament in Blanchard on Oct. 13 and 14 after returning from Hobbs, New Mexico, for the Battling for the Desert tournament hosted by Southwest (N.M.) on Sept 29.

When reflecting on the upcoming fall schedule, Gorzney states, "We have four tournaments this Fall, including a Division 1 event hosted by Missouri State. A competitive NAIA field awaits us in Mississippi, four and with 4 new players, while losing six, I'm interested to see what kind of team we have this year competitively."
