This Week in OCU Women's Soccer

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City plays two more non-conference women's soccer matches this week, hosting Williams Baptist at 3:30 p.m. and visiting Bellevue in Nebraska on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Stars are 4-0-1 on the season and Tuesday's home match follows a men's game in a rare switch for 2025.

OCU Notebook
Plenteous Scoring: The Stars are averaging just under six goals per game this season. OCU leads the Sooner Athletic Conference at 5.8 goals per game.

Lucky 13: OCU's 29 goals this season have been scored by 13 different Stars. Amelia Horsford leads in the goal-scoring category with six while Kayleigh Haygood and Yami Ponce have four each. Player of the Week: Amelia Horsford is coming off a great game against Sterling in which she scored three goals and added an assist. The seven points in a game is a Sooner Athletic Conference best this season. Horsford converted the three goals on just four shots. For Horsford, who was an All-Conference selection last season, this is her first weekly honor. OCU also received a defensive award earlier this year when Candela Blanco picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors in week two.

Blanco Clean: Candela Blanco, who has a Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award this season, has allowed one goal through five games for a 0.20 goals allowed average. She has 13 saves and four shutouts.

One Goal: The lone Oklahoma City tie was a 1-1 contest at Our Lady of the Lake and it marks the only goal the Stars have allowed this season. OCU leads the Sooner Athletic Conference with 0.20 goals allowed per game and a scoring margin of 5.6 goals per game.

Stingy Defense: The Stars have allowed just 19 shots all season and 10 of those came in the 1-1 tie. OCU allows 3.8 shots per game.

Just Trying to Help: Ten Stars have contributed to the team's total of 20 assists this season, led by Kayleigh Haygood with four and Saizlee Carlton with three. Reese Roberts, Tatum Tallal, Inka Silz and Alyssa Schuerch have two apiece. Haygood leads the SAC and Carlton is tied for second.

Shot Chart: The Stars average over 24 shots per game this season with six players having launched 10 or more shots. Yami Ponce has a team-high 17 shots, followed by Kayleigh Haygood at 15, Ali Daugherty with 14, Abby Russell and Amelia Horsford with 12 each and Reese Roberts with 10.

Quality Attempts: More than 56 percent of OCU's shots are on target and more than 23 percent end up in the net. Yami Ponce leads the team with 10 shots on goal this season.

When Last We Met: This will be the first meeting between OCU and Williams Baptist. The Stars lost a 1-0 contest to Bellevue last season at home.
