Baseball Falls in Pitcher's Duel Against MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY—The Oklahoma City University Baseball team began its last regular season series of the year against Mid-America Christian University on Thursday night. A pitcher's duel unfolded as both starters went deep into the game while limiting offensive success. The Evangels ended up winning the game with the help of timely offense. MACU moved to 15-1 at their home stadium while OCU moved to 16-21 for the 2025 campaign.

There was no offense scored by MACU or OCU during the first five innings of the ball game. Evangels' starting pitcher, Brock Cordes (7.0 IP, 7 K, 1 BB, 3 H), found his groove early. Freshman Tanner Ellis went toe-to-toe with Cordes and held MACU scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when a wild pitch allowed MACU to score their first run of the game.

The Stars had a tough time getting base runners on the bags and struck out 10 times as a team Thursday night. Batters four through nine in the OCU lineup failed to record a hit and went a combined 0-for-18.

In the sixth inning, MACU was able to seal their victory and pull away from the Stars when D'Andre Gaines hit a two-run home run to right center. Before the home run by Gaines, the Stars were putting together a rally in the top half of the inning, but it was ultimately cut short when the third out was recorded when a would-be single through the infield struck an OCU baserunner.

OCU struck out twice and flew out to right field for the three outs in the top of the seventh inning. During the eighth inning, MACU relief pitcher, Andrew Long, worked around a two-out walk to record a hold and hand the ball to Evangels' closer, Gabriel Dixon.

Dixon proceeded to notch a one-two-three ninth inning to secure his second save and the win for MACU.
