Stars Drop Series Against Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University Baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader inside Jim Wade Stadium against the Central Christian College Tigers. The Stars experienced an up-and-down day against CCC, being outscored 25-9 and outhit 24-6 in the two games played. Game one saw the Tigers open the scoring early, while in game two, the Stars scored seven runs in the first two innings before CCC stormed back.

Central Christian scored in three consecutive innings to start game one, totaling five runs. Kurt Ippolito and Bo Daniel were the driving force for the Tigers' offense, combining for 11 RBIs, with three of them coming in the first inning of the first game. Ippolito and Daniel both homered in the first inning, and the Tigers added to their run total in the second with a single to right field by Mason Bowden.

In the top of the third inning, CCC gained another run after Braden Young doubled to right center, scoring Daniel. The Stars' offense tallied its first run in the third inning. OCU capitalized on a wild pitch that resulted in Eli Hill crossing home plate.

The game was busted wide open in the fifth inning when the Tigers tallied five runs of offense. Cooper Sanders singled and collected an RBI to begin the inning for CCC. Then, Bowden drove in Iker Muniz on a SAC fly, and Ippolito doubled down the left field line to score Nate Diaz, who was pinch running for Mason Dean. Pinch hitter Noel Aquino collected the last two RBIs in the inning for the Tigers after he brought Sanders and Diaz across home plate on his single to left center.

The seventh inning saw Jack Johnson smash a no-doubter of a solo home run to cut the Stars' deficit to 10-2.

Ultimately, the Tigers' 10 runs on 10 hits proved to be too much for the Stars to overcome. The Stars struck out 10 times as a team in game one.

In game two, OCU started strong and fast as an offense. The Stars tagged CCC starting pitcher Nicholas Clayson for seven earned runs on six hits. Clayson faced 12 OCU batters before being taken out of the game by head coach Joey Pavlovich.

OCU scored their first run on a bases-loaded wild pitch that allowed all base runners to move up 90 feet. Stars' first baseman Trent Kiraly continued the scoring by smashing a double to the center field wall, scoring Nic Bennett and Ethan Rhodes. Kiraly came around to score after Barrett Daniel crushed a home run to left center, extending the Stars' first inning lead to 5-0.

Tigers' third baseman, Mason Bowden, produced the first two runs of the game for CCC after he singled to left center in the second inning. The Stars were able to collect that run back, plus another one in the bottom of the second. Ethan Rhodes notched an RBI on a double that scored Hunter Lenochan, and then OCU scored another run on a wild pitch.

The Stars would not score another run after the second inning, and the Tigers were able to bust the game open by scoring 13 runs of their own in innings four through six, including an eight-run sixth inning.
