Travis tabs career-high in scoring, Stars drop low-scoring effort to Rams

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Oklahoma City Women's Basketball team struggled to get the offense going after having a pair of single-digit quarters falling to Texas Wesleyan 54-42.

STAT OF THE GAME: Raegan Travis posted her career-high of 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor as Travis topped her previous-high of 15 that she set against Langston on Nov. 21.  

FIRST QUARTER: Oklahoma City leaped out to a 5-1 lead as Raegan Travis and Amaya Gordon handled the scoring. Texas Wesleyan then rattled off a 7-0 run that led to a four-point Rams lead. Victoria Ososonya put the Stars back on top by one after a pair of free throws with 1:16 to go before the Rams regained the advantage at the end of the period.  

SECOND QUARTER: Both teams offenses went cold in the second quarter as Texas Wesleyan outscored OCU 9-8 as the Stars first basket came with 5:38 left. Travis and Jerzie Bryant were the only two OCU players to score in the period while the Stars defense held the Rams scoreless in the final 5:22.  

THIRD QUARTER: Oklahoma City hung right with Texas Wesleyan throughout the third as Gordon and Travis represented the two scorers for OCU as the Stars took back the lead for the first time since the first quarter just seconds after the seven-minute mark. Neither side could garner a lead more than two up until 16 seconds remaining when Imani Mitchell nailed the jumper to take a four-point lead into the fourth.  

FOURTH QUARTER: As Oklahoma City cut the deficit to two with 7:28 to play the Stars offense went dry as OCU could only score one more time for the rest of the game as Texas Wesleyan pulled away with a 16-8 scoring advantage in the final quarter to come away with a 54-42 victory.  

GAME NOTES 

  • Oklahoma City drops its third straight game to move to 10-17 overall and 10-13 in conference play.  

  • Amaya Gordon reached double-figures for the fifth time in six games as the senior went for 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting while hauling in five boards.  

  • Despite not getting into the scoring column, Brooke Curry snatched her career-best six rebounds to the tie a game-high with Raegan Travis.  

  • For the third time this season, Oklahoma City went without a three-point basket shooting 0-for-6 from beyond the arc.  

  • Oklahoma City suffers the season-sweep to Texas Wesleyan and falls for the ninth time in a row to the Rams.  

NEXT TIMEOUT: Oklahoma City will be back in action for the final game of the regular season as the Stars will face Southwestern Christian in the Gaulke Activity Center on the campus of Mid-America Christian University at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 22.
