Stars Victorious at Sterling, 89-79

STERLING, Kan. – Oklahoma City used balanced scoring and turned 20 Sterling turnovers into 20 points in an 89-79 road win Friday.
 
Six Stars scored in double-figures, led by Ellie Willard with 18. Jerzie Bryant added 13 and four players – Amanda Sene Da Cruz, Monica Devine, Victoria Ososanya and Sunishka Kartik – scored 12 apiece.
 
OCU trailed 24-22 after the first quarter and the game stayed close in the second period but OCU scored five points in the final 30 seconds on two Kartik free throws and a last-second trey by Willard for a 45-40 OCU halftime lead.
 
The Stars stretched the lead to 11 points midway through the third quarter but Sterling began to chip away and eventually took the lead in the middle of the fourth quarter.
 
OCU responded, however, forcing three turnovers in a 12-2 run to take over the game. Willard, Sene Da Cruz and Kartik had four points each in that spree.
 
The Stars corralled 47 rebounds, led by Sene Da Cruz with nine and Ososanya with eight.
 
CU finished with 12 steals, led by Kartik with four and Devine with three.
 
With the win, the Stars bump up to 3-1 on the season. OCU returns to action in it Sooner Athletic Conference opener at Southwestern Christian on Nov. 15.
