Head of the Oklahoma Launches OCU Rowing Season on Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City launches its men's and women's rowing season this weekend with its Head of the Oklahoma Regatta in Oklahoma City's Boathouse District.

Since 2004, the Oklahoma Regatta Festival has been on first or second weekend in October on the Oklahoma River.

OCU's event, The Head of the Oklahoma, begins on the second day of the Festival. Colorado State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rhode Island, Rice, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Christian, Texas Tech, Central Oklahoma and Xavier (La.) join Oklahoma City in the collegiate varsity races. Several college club teams also will participate.

General admission is free but some special viewing areas are subject to admission charges.

The annual OCU Head of the Oklahoma includes 2.5 mile (4k) head racing during the day, featuring teams from across the country competing in collegiate, masters, and junior rowing as well as kayak and dragon boat racing.

The 500-meter OG&E NightSprints are held on the river after the sun goes down, creating an electrifying atmosphere for competitors and spectators alike.
