Okla. City Bounces Back at Home, Outlasts TWU on Brian Harvey Day

OKLAHOMA CITY – On Saturday,  Oklahoma City University soccer paid tribute to the late longstanding and program-founding Head Coach Brian Harvey. In 1986, Harvey was named the program's first head coach for men's soccer and in 1994 when Okla. City added women's soccer. The alumni and former players were also honored during Saturday's matches against the Texas Wesleyan University Rams at Brian Harvey Field. OCU recently suffered its first loss of 2025, but the 2-0 shutout victory against TWU gives OCU a 10-1-2 overall record.

How It Happened
Equally splitting two goals between each half and executing sound defense, OCU earned its eighth shutout of the year. The Stars controlled the match, surrendering only one shot in each half to the Rams. Oklahoma City tallied 10 corner kicks; TWU did not attempt a single corner kick. Halfway through the first half, Kayleigh Haygood netted her 10th goal of the season. Assisting on Haygood's cork-popping goal was Reese Roberts. The Stars totaled 27 shots with 12 landing on goal during the contest, but Rams' goalie Hannah Smith amassed 10 saves.

During the second half, scoring celebrations started early when Chloi Thurman found the back of the net eight minutes after intermission ended. Haygood earned her eighth assist after setting Thurman up for the second-half score; the Stars' midfielder now leads the team in points. Ryann Brooks also earned an assist on the Thurman goal in double-assist fashion.

After recording 27 shots against the Rams, OCU has now totaled at least 25 shots in a match six times and twice in conference play.

Ten Times Three Equals Goals
The Oklahoma City trio of Amelia Horsford, Yami Ponce, and Haygood have all scored 10 goals in 2025; this trifecta of Stars is also in a three-way tie for the Sooner Athletic Conference lead for goals scored. In total, OCU is the only team in the SAC with 300+ shots; the Stars have totaled 315 on the season. The aforementioned trio is responsible for 112 of the OCU shots.

On the Radar
Oklahoma City will not play again until next Saturday, October 18. OCU will kick off at 4 p.m. against the Nelson University Lions at Brian Harvey Field.
