Bryant brings 17 off the bench, Lions win 17th straight game on Thursday

LANGSTON, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Women's Basketball team got off to a slow start on Thursday night allowing Langston to run away with a 31-point victory to earn its 17th straight victory.

STAT OF THE GAME: Jerzie Bryant boosted the Stars off the bench with her second-highest scoring total of the season with 17 points as Bryant had a stellar night from the field with an efficient 8-of-11 shooting night sinking her most field goals this year. 

FIRST QUARTER: The first set of points for Oklahoma City came with 5:21 remaining in the opening period while the next field goal did not come until 1:05 left to play from Jerzie Bryant who followed Lauren Rowan knocking down a pair of free throws. Despite only scoring six the Stars were able to keep it within six at the end of the first 10 minutes.

SECOND QUARTER: Langston caught fire in the second by starting out with a 17-4 run to breakaway with an 18 point lead, its largest of the first half. Following the Lions surge, Oklahoma City held Langston to just three points in the final 3:10 of play before Victoria Ososonya scored the Stars last seven of nine points to finish the quarter. 

THIRD QUARTER: Oklahoma City came out of the break unable to bring the deficit to below 16 as Amaya Gordon, Ray Osborn and Jerzie Bryant all had one field goal each while Akajia Handsom delivered a 3-for-4 quarter from the stripe. Langston grew its lead out to 21 points as Koreea Kirksey finish with the Lions final five points to claim an advantage of 53-33 entering the final quarter. 

FOURTH QUARTER: Langston pulled away in the final period with highest scoring 10 minutes of the night as the Lions boasted 27 points in the quarter. The Lions closed things out with a 16-5 run to finish the game before Bryant knocked down her first three of the contest with 20 seconds to play resulting in an 80-49 win for Langston. 

GAME NOTES
  • Oklahoma City drops its third straight game to move to 8-14 overall and 8-10 in SAC play while the Lions earned their 17th consecutive victory to remain at the top of the conference standings with just one loss on the season.
  • Amaya Gordon delivered her fifth game over the last six with double-figures scoring 12 points to go along with four rebounds. 
  • Victoria Ososonya made her third start of the season and collected a season-high seven points on 5-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. 
  • The Stars were 1-of-4 from downtown with the only three of the night coming from the hand of Jerzie Bryant with 20 seconds to go. 
  • Langston sweeps the season-series over Oklahoma City after defeating the Stars back on Nov. 21 by a score of 55-51. 
  • The Lions earn their fifth straight victory over OCU as the Stars hold a 16-8 lead in the all-time series dating back to 2009. 
NEXT TIME OUT: The Stars are back inside its home building after three games on the road with a matchup against Central Christian on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
