POTEAU, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Women's Wrestling Overcomes Illness and Injuries to Defeat Carl Albert 28-21 in Saturday's road dual.
Despite missing multiple starters due to illness and injuries, the Oklahoma City University women's wrestling team showcased its depth and resilience in a hard-fought 28-21 victory over Carl Albert.
The Stars faced an early setback before the dual even began, forfeiting two weight classes and falling behind on the scoreboard. The tough start continued as OCU managed just one win in the first three matches. However, freshman Paige Kirk provided a much-needed spark, securing a win by fall in her collegiate debut to put OCU on the board
From there, momentum swung in the Stars' favor. Wachipi Hamelryck followed up with another pin, igniting a dominant winning streak. OCU went on to claim the next five matches, sealing the comeback victory.
The win highlights the program's depth and determination as they continue to battle through adversity this season. The Stars will look to heal up and build on this performance in two weeks at the Grand View Open in Des Moines, IA.
