COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Oklahoma City Stars softball team came away stunned after dropping their opening matchup with Jessup University (Calif.) on Friday afternoon 11-2 at South Commons Softball Complex.

Jessup University (Calif.) - 11

Oklahoma City - 2

Game Summary

Oklahoma City fell behind early and never recovered as they dropped their first contest of the NAIA Softball World Series, 11-2, to the Jessup Warriors on Friday afternoon at South Commons Softball Complex.

Jessup got out to an early lead with a three-run homer in the first with two outs in the inning from Sam Lorge to make it 3-0 after the first frame. The Warriors added four more in the second with a two-RBI triple and a two-run homer to extend the lead to 7-0 after two.

After the first six OCU batters went down to open the game, Amy Crabugh gave the Stars their first hit with a single to left center to which Tiffany Paul followed up with a base on balls to give Oklahoma City two and nobody out. The Stars failed to capatilize in the third stranding the two base runners after a foul out and back-to-back fly outs to the Warriors centerfielder.

Shelbey Cornelson was able to keep Jessup off the board in the bottom half of the third sitting the Warriors down in order. In the follow frame, Kamryn Garvie led the inning off with a walk before Baileigh Loux gave OCU its second and final hit of the ball game with a single through the left side.

The Stars were able to take advantage of the base runners this time as Emersen Heron laid down a bunt which forced a defensive miscue allowing Garvie to score from second base. Freshman Tara Hoehner followed up Heron's at-bat with a sacrifice fly to center to score Loux for the second run of the game for OCU.

Just when Oklahoma City began to chip away and find some momentum, Jessup came back with a four run fourth inning sending 10 batters to the plate extending the advantage to 11-2 setting up the run-rule over Oklahoma City in five innings.

Game Notes

- Oklahoma City tied a season-low with two hits, the third time this season the Stars have only garnered a pair of hits this year.

- Baileigh Loux extended her hitting streak to seven games after her base hit in the fourth as Loux finished her day 1-for-2 as she came across to score for the third consecutive outing.

- Amy Crabaugh put together a 1-for-2 game for the second straight contest as she supplied Oklahoma City with its first hit of the day.

Next Up

Oklahoma City will have a quick turnaround looking to keep its season alive as the Stars will be back in action at 10 am (ET) in an elimination game against the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.)  who is the number four seed in the tournament.
