Baseball sees season come to an end with loss to Embry-Riddle (Ariz.)

LEWISTON, ID. - The Oklahoma City baseball team suffered elimination in the NAIA Opening Round at the hands of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.).

After two scoreless inning, Embry-Riddle broke away for a seven run bottom of the third inning ripping any momentum away from the Stars. 

Oklahoma City saw nine consecutive batters be retired in the early part of the contest. The Stars had an opportunity to get on the board for the first the top of the sixth as Hunter Lenochan, Trent Kiraly and Aiden Van Rensum all reached base before Tristan Williams flew out to end the inning without getting a run across. 

The Eagles added three more in the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI single and an RBI double to take a 10-0 lead. 

Oklahoma City had just one runner reach third base in Lenochan as the Stars suffered their fourth shutout of the year as the 2024 season came to a close.

The Stars collected eight hits in the game as the top four in the order, Aiden Alexander, Lenochan, Chad Pike and Kirlay had one hit apiece.

Aiden Alexander ended the season on an eight-game hitting streak after his leadoff single to start the game. Alexander finished the season with a career-high .328 batting average and led the team with 28 stolen bases, 

Hunter Lenochan put together a 1-for-3 day at the plate completing the season with a .330 average and was second on the team with 62 hits. Lenochan reached base multiple times and was one of only two Stars to do so joining Chad Pike. 

Trent Kiraly wrapped up a monsterous 2024 season by launching a career-best 19 home runs while leading the team in average (.369), OPS (1.180), hits (69), home runs (19) and RBI (59). 

Aiden Van Rensum extended his hitting streak to five straight games after hitting a single to load the bases in the sixth. 

Despite not locking up a save in the Opening Round, Chad Pike ends the year as the nation's leader with 14 saves and 1.40 ERA. In Tuesday's game, Pike was 1-for-3 with a single in the eighth inning and joined Lenochan as one of two Stars to reach base twice.

Kade Shatwell suffered his third loss of the season on the bump finishing his first season at OCU 7-3 with a 3.67 ERA. 

Colin Pelton stepped into the game to hit for the first time in the seventh inning and clinched the only extra base hit for the Stars with his first double of the season and just his second hit overall.

Oklahoma City finished the season 35-18 with a 17-7 conference record. The Stars finished second in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings while being the runner-up in the SAC tournament. Oklahoma City completed the year ranked 21st in the country.
