Baseball takes series at USAO

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City picked up its second straight series victory coming off a win on Thursday while securing a win in the first game on Saturday over Science & Arts.

With the win, the 24th-ranked Stars improved to 26-13, while USAO fell to 24-14.

OCU scored double-digit runs for the 11th time this season and tied a season-high 17 hits in the contest. 

Six Stars strung together multiple hits with Trent Kiraly, Aiden Alexander, and Reese Ratchford all tallying three hits a piece with Barrett Daniel leading the way with four RBIs as the team hit three home runs and three doubles.

Kade Shatwell earned the win as the OCU starter as the right-hander improved to 5-1 after six innings of work in which he allowed four runs, three earned on six hits, and a walk to go along with six strikeouts.

OCU scored at least one run in the first four innings of play as Barrett Daniel launched a two-run shot in the second inning to put the Stars up 3-0.

After USAO tied the game in the bottom of the second, Oklahoma City exploded for its biggest inning of the day with a four-run frame in the third with Daniel coming up big once again for the Stars with a two-RBI base knock into centerfield. 

Tristan Williams kept the inning alive with his team-leading 13th double of the season and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch. 

The Stars extended their lead in the fourth inning with Trent Kiraly surpassing his 2023 home run total by slashing home run number 16 on the year driving in three runs before Chad Pike added a two-run homer of his own in the sixth to put the game to bed 12-4.

Reese Ratchford finished his day with three singles, making it the third time this season Ratchford has notched three base hits in one game.

Aiden Alexander also tabbed three singles making it the first time all season Alexander has totaled three hits in a game.

Chad Pike extended his hitting streak to seven straight games after going yard for the 12th time this year. Pike had just two home runs total in his previous two years at Oklahoma City before this season.

Science & Arts 10 - Oklahoma City 0

Science & Arts outhit OCU 14-4 in the contest as the Stars fell to 26-14 overall, while the Drovers improved to 25-14.

The Oklahoma City bats went quiet in the series finale as only four Stars reached base without an extra-base hit.

Reese Ratchford took the loss to move to 6-2. The sophomore worked two innings, allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and strikeout.

USAO took the lead right away in the first and did not look back, the Drovers scored two runs in the first, one in the second, and three in the third with its biggest inning coming in the four-run sixth.

The Drovers hit three home runs while starting pitcher Brian Ereu went the distance while shutting out the Stars for just the second time this season allowing four hits while striking out eight.

Trent Kiraly was one of four Stars to notched a base hit while going 1-for-3 while earning a hit for the third straight game.

Aiden Alexander followed up his three-hit performance in game one with a 1-for-3 game in the series finale while swiping his team-leading 10th stolen base of the year.

After going without a hit in the first two games of the series, Darian Duhon broke through with a single to right in the third inning. 

Hunter Brown got his 18th start of the year behind the dish in game three and finished the day going 1-for-2, his seventh hit of the season. 

Despite falling in the final game, Oklahoma City earned back-to-back series victories and its fourth Sooner Athletic Conference series win of the year. 

The Stars will be back in action for a midweek nine-inning game against No. 23 Tabor on Wednesday, Apr. 17 at 2 PM on DenneyCrabaugh Field at Jim Wade Stadium.
