STAT OF THE GAME Brooke Curry nailed all five threes for Oklahoma City on Wednesday evening as the freshman showcased her shooting ability in her Stars debut going 5-of-7 from downtown finishing with 17 points, two rebounds and one assist.
FIRST QUARTER: Falling behind 4-1 right out the gate, Oklahoma City heated up for a 12-0 run with two of the five
Brooke Curry threes coming during that stretch. The stout Oklahoma City defense forced Kansas Wesleyan into nine turnovers during the 10 minute period while OCU finished with 17 points in the quarter and a three point lead.
SECOND QUARTER: Oklahoma City once again put together a strong effort on the defensive end holding the Coyotes to just 12 points while
Amaya Gordon picked up two steals and had one blocked shot. Oklahoma City saw a big 16-3 run to see its lead grow to the biggest advantage of the game with a 13 point lead.
THIRD QUARTER: OCU came out of the locker room with a nine point lead at 45-36 as Kansas Wesleyan began lighting it up from three point land hitting three out four in the quarter. Angel Lee and Hampton Williams each scored six in the quarter for the Coyotes while OCU freshman
Jerney Bennett saw a big quarter with five points and six rebounds. Kansas Wesleyan used an 8-0 run to get back into the game cutting the deficit to two at the end of the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: Kansas Wesleyan snatched the lead which they not would not give back as Catherine Bowman hit a three 25 seconds in. After falling behind by five, Oklahoma City used a 10-5 run as Curry scored eight during that span with two more triples while
Raegan Travis pitched in with two points of her own. KWU went on to score the next six consecutive points only to close out the contest with a six point victory of 71-65.
GAME NOTES
- Oklahoma City shot its best percentage from the field this season at 43.9%.
- Amaya Gordon matched a game-high with 17 points of her own while having four steals and a season-best three blocks.
- Freshman Jerney Bennett had a stellar home debut with her first career double-double with 11 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
- Raegan Travis racked up a season-high nine points on 4-of-9 shooting while grabbing four rebounds.
- Kansas Wesleyan committed 22 turnovers in the game, the most by an OCU opponent through three game so far.
- The Coyotes take the second ever meeting between the two schools taking last year's meeting in Salina.
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City will have the week off and pick up play Thursday, Nov. 14 against Nelson University inside Abe Lemons Arena at 6:00 PM.
