Stars end regular season with 4-0, 4-1 wins over MACU

Cornelson strikes out 14 in one-hit shutout

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City University wraps up their regular season with 4-0 and 4-1 wins over Mid-America Christian on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium. OCU finished the season with a record of 41-8, 28-3 in SAC play.

Shelbey Cornelson shutout the Evangels while allowing one hit in her 14-strikeout performance. The Stars overcame and early 1-0 deficit in game two powered by Kamryn Garvie's two-run home run.

OCU got on board in the first off Analise Rayburns sac bunt RBI. In the fourth, OCU scored three more as Brook Mason singled, got in a run down and stayed in it long enough for Rayburn to sneak in before the throw came from in. Everyone was safe as Kaitlyn Jones advanced to third and Mason advanced to second. Lexi Duff followed that with an RBI single to score Jones and Mason.

The Stars would combine for four hits with Jones claiming two, Duff had one and Mason had the fourth. Rayburn and Mason had one RBI while Duff had the other two.

Cornelson, the senior from Tuttle, Okla., allowed her first and only hit in the fifth as she had struck out 10 of the first 12 batters she faced. She claims her 17th shutout of the season as her season record goes to 22-2 on the win.

The second game was similar to the first as the games were separated by one run and a seven-minute difference in game time.

The Evangels scored first on a muffed throw from Rayburn. OCU came back with two runs off the bat of the Edmond, Okla., Garvie in the second. Garvie's two run bomb was the ninth of her junior year. They added two more in the third with a sac fly from Rally Radacy to score Grace Pollon. Jones later stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

Lexi Duff's record goes to 16-5 as she picked up the win with two strikeouts in five innings. Brynlee Alsip pitched the final two innings and picked up her second save of the season as she also struck out two.

OCU will have the number one seed for the SAC tournament which is set to start on Thursday. The Stars first game will be at 11am vs. Texas Wesleyan. The winner of that game will play the winner of Panhandle State vs. Southwestern Christian.
