OKLAHOMA CITY -
Barrett Daniel's three-run home run lifted Oklahoma City University to a 4-1 win in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader vs. Doane (Neb.) at Jim Wade Stadium.
Doane won the first game, 10-7.
Felix Chenier-Rondeau singled and
Trent Kiraly was hit by a pitch to set up Daniel's heroics in the sixth inning. OCU had seven hits with two each from Chenier-Rondeau and Daniel. The Stars also scored on a wild pitch in the second that scored Kiraly. Drew Limbaugh threw a complete game, striking out five while allowing seven hits on just one run that came in the fifth. Limbaugh, a junior from Oklahoma City, now has 15 strikeouts on the season.
In game one, Doane jumped out to an early 3-0 lead off a pair of first-inning home runs. OCU answered in the bottom of the inning on
Tristan Williams' 3-run double. Williams, a senior from Southlake, Texas, brought his season RBI total up to four. The two teams would supply runs in the next inning to make it a 4-4 ballgame. The Tigers scored five unanswered runs in the next three innings before
Reese Ratchford's RBI single in the sixth cut the lead to 9-5.
Trent Kiraly's two-run home run in the seventh were the final runs of the game.
Pitchers
Rylan Roberson and
Cole Sedgwick combined for four strikeouts in seven innings of work. Kiraly, a senior from Farmington, N.M., and Williams each had three RBIs and two hits apiece. Ratchford, a freshman from Sulphur, Okla., had the Stars' other RBI.
OCU, now 6-8 on the season, returns to Jim Wade Stadium on Tuesday for a single game against Sterling (Kan.) at 2 p.m.
