OKLAHOMA CITY - No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University sweeps the double header vs. Cottey (Mo.) on Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium. The Stars advance to 6-2.
The Stars, run ruled The Comets in their first game 9-1. In the second game, they came up with a couple late long balls to win 4-2.
Lexi Duff struck out 10 in her six innings of work. Duff, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla is 4-0 in the year.
The Stars got out to an early 3-0 holding the Comets hitless until the 4th. OCU gathered three of their nine runs in the third as they were a homerun away from a cycle in the inning. They started out the inning with a walk,
Carlee Mollet tripled,
Rally Radacy doubled, then
Brooklyn Mason singled. Mollet, a sophomore psychology from Ripley, Okla. and Radacy, a sophomore exercise science from Lookeba, Okla. picked up RBIs in the inning.
Tiffany Paul picked up the third off a sac fly. OCU would pick up another run in the 4th after a bases loaded walk from Mason. Mason fouled off a multitude of two strike pitches to draw the walk after a long at bat.
Analise Rayburn picked up the Stars fifth run off a sac fly in the 5th.
OCU won the game in grand fashion with a game ending grand slam from
Jessica Phares to run rule Cottey. The Stars got the first three batters on base to start the inning. Phares, a freshman from Blanchard, Okla. took the pitch and blasted it over the left field wall for her first collegiate homerun.
Shelbey Cornelson picked up the win in the second game with seven strikeouts and allowed two hits in seven innings of work.
Rayburn got OCU on the board in the 2nd with an RBI double.
Grace Pollon singled later in the inning. Cottey tied the game up in the 3rd. OCU played tied until
Kamryn Garvie homered in the 5th to take the lead. Rayburn tacked on an insurance homerun in the 6th for the 4-2 final.
Rayburn, Garvie, and Pollon ended the game with two hits and all of the game's RBIs. Overall, OCU had 10 hits after 12 hits in the first game.
OCU plays another home doubleheader vs. Our Lady of the Lake on Friday starting at 2 p.m.
