SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - Oklahoma City was dealt a 92-71 loss at the hands of John Brown University on Tuesday night at the Bill George Arena.
Annilia Dawn and
Amaya Gordon both led Stars with 19 points. OCU goes back to an even record of 12-12, 9-10 (SAC) on the season with two games remaining.
John Brown went to 19-7, 13-7 (SAC) on the win.
OCU led 4-0 early on for their only advantage in the game. The Golden Eagles got out ahead in the first half and never looked back. OCU trailed by nine with 9:29 to go in the second quarter. Their biggest deficit would end up being 24 with 3:02 left in the second after free throws by Graci Harris.
On the night, it was Gordon and Dawn with almost the exact same stat line minus the turnovers, fouls, and a steal for Dawn. Dawn, a senior Psychology major from Amarillo, Texas, and Gordon, a junior Criminal Justice major from Ardmore, Okla., each had 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Cacie Gorman and
Amiya Howard each supplied nine points as
Fiona Wilson capped off the Stars with eight.
The Stars were victim to the recent SAC player of the week, Natalie Smith, as she went for 24 points on 8-10 3-point shooting. In total JBU shot 62.5 percent from as the Stars shot 19.2. OCU caused 16 Golden Eagle turnovers with six steals of their own.
"I felt that our squad fought through a lot of adversity and never backed down from the challenge," OCU coach
Kris Seigenthaler said. "It's not the outcome that we were looking for, but have to shift our focus to the second SAC game in six days."
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Stars will play vs. Southwestern Christian at 6 p.m. Thursday at Oklahoma Baptist University in the Noble Complex.
