OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars women's basketball team wraps up the 2023 home slate with a matchup on Saturday afternoon against Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Oklahoma Panhandle State.

About the Stars

  • Oklahoma City comes off back-to-back heartbreaking losses on Tuesday and Thursday as the Stars fell to Columbia College in overtime before dropping a one-point decision to Wayland Baptist on Thursday night. 
  • Ray Osborn was on fire on Thursday night against the Flying Queens as the senior ended up tying her previous career-high of 17 points. Osborn enters Saturday as the team's third-best scorer at 10.3 PPG. 
  • Senior Amaya Gordon leads the Stars at 13.7 PPG coming off a big night against Wayland Baptist as Gordon notched her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Jazmin Adams has come in as a bright spot for the Stars averaging 10.0 PPG the team's leading rebounder with 8.2 RPG. Before Thursday night Adams strung together back-to-back games scoring in double-figures with an 18-point and 14 rebound performance against Central Christian followed by a 16 & 8 outing on Tuesday against Columbia College. 

About the Aggies

  • Oklahoma Panhandle State enters Saturday without a win on its schedule and an 0-3 start in Sooner Athletic Conference play. 
  • OPSU is averaging 33.0 PPG in its first three games in SAC play and has lost by an average margin of 36.6 points. 
  • The Aggies come in without a double-figure scorer as Sierra Tate leads the team with 7.0 PPG. Tate saw her top of the season so far come against Mid-America Christian with a season-high 13 points. 

Meet the Coaches

  • Kris Seigenthaler (2nd Season) 
    • Kris Seigenthaler enters year two at the helm for Stars after posting a 13-15 record in 2022-23. Seigenthaler arrived at Oklahoma City after a successful stint as an assistant coach at Loyola (La.). 
    • In four seasons with Loyola, Seigenthaler helped the Wolfpack sweep the Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships for two consecutive years. Loyola advanced to the NAIA Championship Tournament and posted 20-win seasons all four years. The Wolf Pack went 91-22 (.805 winning percentage) with her contributions.
    • Seigenthaler coached four NAIA all-Americans, two Women's Basketball Coaches Association all-Americans as well as student-athletes who won conference player of the year, defensive player of the year, newcomer of the year, sixth man of the year, and two conference tournament most valuable player awards at Loyola.
    • Before joining the Loyola coaching staff, Seigenthaler spent two years as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.). She coached one all-American there. She assisted with the school's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference after being a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) for 17 years. While with the Warhawks in 2017, she was also recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on its Thirty Under 30 list.  
  •  Greg Rey (2nd Season)
    • Rey takes on his second season as the head coach of the Aggies with nearly 15 years of coaching experience on his back. 
    • Most recently, Ray was the associate head coach at Seward County Community College (2020), Chicago State University – NCAA Division I (2018-2020), and first assistant coach at Central Methodist University (2011-18). 
    • Before that, he was the camp director for Midwest Elite Basketball and the Alaska Stars club coach.

Series History 

  • Oklahoma City comes in with a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series against Oklahoma Panhandle State dating back to 2018. 
  • The Stars swept the season series last year winning 79-67 on the road and then defeating the Aggies 75-66 in the next meeting. 

What's Next

  • Oklahoma City will compete in its final game of 2023 next Friday on the road against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Dec. 15 at 8 PM.
