OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars women's basketball team picks things back up on Thursday at Langston to finish off a three-game road trip.

About the Stars

  • Oklahoma City comes into Saturday's contest on a five-game losing streak, most recently falling in its final game of the road trip to Langston 84-61. 
  • The Stars lone victory came in their season-opener to Wiley College 79-53 coming back on Nov. 2. 
  • Amaya Gordon has been the top performer for OCU through the first six games as Gordon leads the way with 13.2 PPG and 8.3 RPG. Gordon has collected a pair of double-doubles so far this season and reached double-figures in five of the first six games. 
  • Jerzie Bryant strung together a high-profile performance on Thursday at Langston as the freshman notched a career-high 20 points bringing her average to 12.8 PPG. 
  • Freshman Myracle Washington averages 10.6 PPG and leads the team in made three-pointers. Washington has reached double-figures in four of the six games this season and wasted no time making a name for herself after dropping 18 points while going 4-7 from three-point range in her OCU debut against Wiley College.
  • Senior Cacie Gorman plays a strong presence inside for the Stars with 5.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG. Gorman put together her best performance of the year with a double-double against Sterling College on Nov. 21 with 12 points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Oklahoma City comes in averaging the second most blocks per game at 3.17 and third in free throw percentage at 76.5%.

About the Tigers

  • Central Christian has begun the year with a 3-3 overall record and come off an 83-31 loss to John Brown in the Tigers conference opener on Thursday night, 
  • The Tigers are led by senior guard Briasia Garza who is currently scoring at a 15.5 PPG clip while shooting 42.9% from the field. Garza saw her top game of the season so far come in a 20-point loss to McPherson College where Garza scored a season-best 26 points while also picking up a season-high four steals.
  • Currently, Central Christian sits 11th of 12 in the Sooner Athletic Conference in PPG (51.0). 
  • The Tigers have been a solid defensive team so far averaging the most steals in the conference with 12.2 SPG.

Meet the Coaches

  • Kris Seigenthaler (2nd Season)
    • Kris Seigenthaler enters year two at the helm for Stars after posting a 13-15 record in 2022-23. Seigenthaler arrived at Oklahoma City after a successful stint as an assistant coach at Loyola (La.). 
    • In four seasons with Loyola, Seigenthaler helped the Wolfpack sweep the Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships for two consecutive years. Loyola advanced to the NAIA Championship Tournament and posted 20-win seasons all four years. The Wolf Pack went 91-22 (.805 winning percentage) with her contributions.
    • Seigenthaler coached four NAIA all-Americans, two Women's Basketball Coaches Association all-Americans as well as student-athletes who won conference player of the year, defensive player of the year, newcomer of the year, sixth man of the year, and two conference tournament most valuable player awards at Loyola.
    • Before joining the Loyola coaching staff, Seigenthaler spent two years as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.). She coached one all-American there. She assisted with the school's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference after being a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) for 17 years. While with the Warhawks in 2017, she was also recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on its Thirty Under 30 list.  
  • Brad Willems (1st Season)
    • Coach Willems enters year one of his collegiate coaching career after spending the last 25 years at the high school level. 
    • Before being named head coach of the Tigers this summer, Coach Willems was the head coach for the girls' basketball program at Canton-Galva High School.

Series History 

  • Oklahoma City owns a perfect 12-0 record over Central Christian in the all-time series dating back to 2012. 
  • The Stars are coming off of a sweep over the Tigers from a season ago where OCU beat down Central Christian by a combined 57 points in two games. 

What's Next

  • Oklahoma City will take a one-game break from SAC play as the Stars will host Columbia College on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 PM.
