Stars drop second straight four point loss coming to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday night

WEATHERFORD, OKLA. - The Oklahoma City women's basketball team fell in a close battle with NCAA Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State as three Stars finished in double figures as freshman Jerzie Bryant became OCU's leading scorer for the second consecutive contest.

Amaya Gordon got the Stars going right from the tip after finishing with a layup for the first score of the game. SWOSU came right back to extend out to as much as a 10-point lead until Cacie Gorman swished a jumper home to make it a 17-9 game at the end of the first quarter.

Freshman Jerzie Bryant started the second quarter with a three-pointer from deep followed by a jumper for two that got the Stars back to within five. SWOSU was able to stretch the lead back out to 11 but OCU came firing back with a 9-0 run as Myracle Washington scored seven of the nine points during that stretch with a shot from range bringing it to within two of 27-25.

Into the second half, SWOSU continued to have an answer for everything that OCU did as Bryant kept the Stars in the game with six straight points for OCU. Southwestern Oklahoma State took an 11-point lead midway through the fourth quarter and here came Oklahoma City. OCU put together a 7-0 run as Gordon brought the deficit to 54-50 with a minute to play,

The Bulldogs hit their free throws down the stretch as OCU got one more basket to go in from Ray Osborn to cut it to four. The Stars had a chance to trim the lead down to two however not enough time remained on the clock after the final miss as the Stars opportunity to take down SWOSU fell just short 56-52.

For the second straight game, Jerzie Bryant led the Stars in scoring with 13 points. The freshman grabbed a season-high seven rebounds and shot 6-19 from the field.

Amaya Gordon reached double-figures for the fourth consecutive outing as Gordon finished with 10 points on 5-8 shooting with six boards to accompany it.

Ray Osborn became the final Star to reach double-figures in scoring as Osborn notched 10 points while going 5-9 from the field with eight rebounds and four assists.

"Tough Defensive effort from our squad tonight," Stars head coach Kris Seigenthaler said. Seigenthaler goes on to say "I liked our physicality and the fact that we held them under 29% from the field, out rebounded our competition by 16, and held them under 60 points. We are close to finishing these games."

Tonight's contest was an exhibition meaning it will not be counted towards the Stars record. However, the performance from OCU displays just how hard this team battles and the fight it has in them.

The Stars will pick things back up with another exhibition against another division II opponent in Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at 7 PM in Shawnee, Okla.
